About Sanwa X Tennis Academy
Sanwa X was built on a simple but powerful belief: that every player, regardless of their starting point, deserves access to genuinely excellent coaching. Too much of the tennis instruction available in Singapore comes from coaches whose own playing experience barely extends beyond club level. At Sanwa X, however, our coaches have competed on the ATP and WTA Tours, reached Grand Slam main draws, and represented their countries at the Olympic Games. As a result, the depth of knowledge this experience brings to every lesson is genuinely transformative.
Our History
Coach Wataru Ochi founded the academy in Singapore in 2004 after an illustrious coaching career in Japan, where he guided players including Ai Sugiyama (French Open doubles finalist 2007) and Go Soeda (career-high ATP World No. 47). His vision was to create a coaching environment that matched the standards of the best tennis academies in Japan. Furthermore, he wanted to make that level of coaching available to the broader Singaporean community. Under Coach XT (Xu Teng) — also the founder of TAG International Tennis Academy and a WTA-conference keynote speaker — Sanwa X subsequently expanded its footprint, its programmes, and its reputation as a premier tennis academy in Singapore. Read the coaches’ full playing and coaching records at their official profiles: Coach Ochi and Coach Takeuchi.
