Beginner Tennis Lessons Singapore – Zero Experience Welcome

Never picked up a tennis racquet? That is perfectly fine. At Sanwa X Tennis Academy, our beginner tennis lessons in Singapore are specifically designed for adults and children who are starting completely from scratch. Our expert coaches will guide you from your very first swing to confidently hitting rallies in just a few weeks.

What to Expect in Our Beginner Tennis Lessons

Many people hesitate to try tennis because they worry about looking foolish or holding back more experienced players. At Sanwa X, however, we eliminate those worries entirely. Our beginner classes are grouped specifically for newcomers — you will learn alongside others at exactly the same level, coached by professionals who know how to introduce the game in an encouraging and effective way. As a result, most beginners feel comfortable and genuinely enjoy their first session.

Our Beginner Tennis Class Structure

Starter (ST) Class

This is the entry point for complete beginners. In Starter class, you will learn how to grip the racquet correctly, the basic stance and posture for hitting, forehand and backhand fundamentals, and how to rally consistently for 10+ shots. The goal is to give you enough foundational skill to enjoy hitting with others and feel comfortable on the court. Furthermore, our coaches ensure correct technique from day one — habits that will serve your game for years.

Beginner (BG) Class

After Starter, students progress to the Beginner class. Here you will develop greater consistency and learn to hit the ball while moving around the court. You will begin working on footwork, directional control, and building longer rallies. This class is also appropriate for players who have played casually for a short time but want proper foundational coaching.

What Beginners Will Learn

  • Continental and Eastern forehand grip techniques
  • Ready position, split step, and basic footwork patterns
  • Forehand groundstroke mechanics and consistency
  • Two-handed and one-handed backhand basics
  • Service motion — toss, swing, and contact point
  • Basic court positioning and rally patterns

Why Learn Tennis at Sanwa X?

As a beginner, your most important decision is choosing the right coach. Poor technique learned at the start of your tennis journey is much harder to fix later. At Sanwa X, our coaches — including former ATP World No. 36 Yuichi Sugita — ensure that beginners develop correct technique from day one. Consequently, you build a foundation that will serve your game for life, rather than spending years unlearning bad habits.

Beginner Adult Tennis vs Beginner Junior Tennis

Adult beginners and junior beginners have different learning styles and coaching needs. Our adult Starter and Beginner classes are designed for grown-up learners — the pace is appropriate, the explanations are adult-friendly, and there is always a social element that makes each session enjoyable. Junior beginners, on the other hand, join our Kids or Junior Flower classes, which are age-appropriate in tone, activity, and instruction style. See our kids tennis lessons Singapore page for details on junior beginner coaching.

All beginner tennis lessons are held at our courts at NTU@one-north, 11 Slim Barracks Rise, Singapore 138664. The facility is a 7-minute walk from Buona Vista MRT (East-West and Circle lines). See our location page for full directions.
